My day of Kindness
By reading the title you might be thinking the author of this blog must be a child; happily flaunting some adorably kind acts they performed. But unfortunately, I am a grown up, just like you. And trust me I am not going to judge anyone for attributing kindness to only kids because that’s completely normal. As people grow up the daily hassle of life causes them to undermine some really beautiful things present in the world such as kindness and compassion.
Amal reminded me the value of kindness which I had long forgotten amidst growing up. So basically, 13th February was ‘my day of kindness’. I woke up with a promise to self that I have to be kind to as many people as possible. I am going to share 5 most significant acts of kindness that I performed on that day.
Atm’s are a harsh place. It looks as if the whole world is just queued up. And once they get to go inside, they take like a forever to withdraw money. I went to the Atm to get some cash (already broke at thirteenth of the month). The lane was moving at an extremely slow pace. And just about the time I got to my turn I saw this middle-aged man proceeding (I was at the end of the lane). He seemed to be in a rush. I let him use the Atm before me. He must have told me thanks a million times as least!
On my way back to hostel I saw this dustbin with garbage thrown around it. It hardly took me 3 minutes to put the wrappers inside of it. And that’s how this happy dust bin looked after I filled it up.
By the time I returned to hostel I was already in high spirits. So the first thing I did was to do my roommate’s dishes. She was delighted to know that I had done it for her.
I had to buy some magazines and so I went to the market later in the day. There, I saw this man selling small stuff such as combs, nail cutters and Surrahs from the Quran. And I bought things from him although I did not need them.
Late in the night one of my classmates, who had previously been sick and missing lectures, texted me to help her with the subject ‘Ethical Concerns in Psychology’. I knew I was tired and wanted to rest. But instead I took time out to tutor her.
These were some of the significant acts I did while practicing kind. I have to say I experienced positive vibes radiating from me. It was one good day. I vow to try to be kinder.
